Getting Ready for Fall

I feel like Fall just showed up all the sudden. I’m still wishing I was beside the lake and enjoying the sun while my kids spend hours in the water and having fun.

I’m learning the growing pains of entrepreneur life and managing family time.

I have more to share about that in an upcoming post.IMG_0822

For now, today I share with you about getting ready for fall. Here’s the thing, it doesn’t need to be expensive or extravagant and if you found me on Pinterest I’m far from perfect when it comes to home decor.

Notefull Living (4)

If it makes you happy and feels at home with what you have, that’s all that matters.

Here’s the things I do to get ready for fall.

Fall Decor: I spent LOTS of money (I’ll openly admit) at the dollar store and make my own floral arrangements. IMG_0817

I love fresh flowers, fake one’s will have to do for now. Back to spending a lot at the dollar store, I stretch my decor pieces or remake them with what I have to put them out every year. One year I grew pumpkins so I only put out a little bit of decor.

IMG_0826

I look forward to the day we move our TV OFF the mantel and I can freely decorate.

Back to Routine: Anyone else excited about having more of a routine?  I have a hard time with change, however if there’s a routine that can fall into place with that change, thank you very much.

I’m really getting at is back to school.  Although, part of the reason this post is so delayed is the changes in my 2 youngest. The other 2 at home have become incredibly demanding. I love them, just lots more work all the sudden without big brother around. Just the realities of family life.

Harvesting the Fall Harvest:  As you saw from my summer gardening post, I have a decent crop this year. With doing a fall garden clean up I found some herbs to process and late producing tomatoes. I had volunteer tomato plants in my greenhouse and the transplanting worked!IMG_0757

Bringing in the fall harvest also includes, canning! Just like the above, there’s lots of Fall Harvest to process. This year I was blessed to have applesauce canned for me. We also canned Salsa with my sister in law and we are still using up our grape harvest canning from last year. IMG_0789.JPG

As you can see, it’s been busy here in our home. Since we got back from holidays it’s been GO GO GO.  We have a Reno that’s almost completed, 2 family birthdays, back to school shopping, 2 weddings this month and guests coming out of town.

As busy as it is, I’m thankful for each and every part of it as we have things to look forward to and people to share life with. So much content coming I can’t wait to share more here on the blog!

What are your FAVORITE things for Fall?  I forgot to add DIY…I’m hoping to find time for that soon!

Lake Life

Lake Life, is quickly becoming a big part of my life.

Yes, I’m all about sharing our lives in the suburbs and sharing with my kids every ‘country’ moment I can give them…but then there’s vacation time.

We have 18 Summers with our kids. Like the little one in the picture, I now have 17 summers left with her.

life is better at the beach

We are now back to “normal life”. I honestly haven’t thought of our home much over the past 2 weeks. Our Travel trailer is so much like a second home, I only have a brief glimpse in my mind of my kitchen back at home.

Looking over my laptop is a view I can’t describe or even capture on camera.  You just gotta be here to soak it up.img_7850

Many people walk by our campsite, stop and point wanting to make sure they can get this site in the campground we stay at in the future.

Lake Life, is sure peaceful. As my sister in law put it, this is where her fondest childhood memories come from is camping every summer.

Our kids fast embraced camping, especially camping with family. As I said before, we have 18 summers with our kids. This camping trip means time with my in-laws and our kids spending time with their grandparents. This summer an Aunt is along.

So grateful to watch our kids overcome their fear of water.  Plus the kids watched mom get over her fear of going behind the boat. img_7887

There was so many ‘firsts’ this trip. Lots of flat tires on the stroller and my sons bike. My first time camping with the kids while my husband went to work. My middle son got stung by a bee! Wouldn’t be possible with the extra helping hands of my in-laws. Don’t worry, my husband was back for the second week with us.

I also got over Cooking with a gas stove  (isn’t my kind of cooking). Trying to not get food in the grill as I’m stirring.  Plus trying to put my minimalist skills to the test, didn’t really work. I think I need more pantry space!IMG_0661

Camping right on the water on a lake is the cheapest we are going to get to ‘beach front property’. Spending our days mostly in our bathing suits. When it gets to hot on shore, we just hop in the lake to cool off.

Sitting by the lake at night by the campfire (fake I might add), seeing the lights on the water and listening to the water on the shore. It’s what keeps bringing our family back every summer.

We’ve sat at night watching the lightning storm, and got rained out hanging out at the local amusement park.

Our kids loved the boat rides, tube rides, bike rides, exploring, splashing in the water and I just loved soaking it all up with them while I got ‘moments’ to soak up the sun.

Do you go camping by a lake? Which one?

Do you camp with family?

Suburban Gardening

It’s Harvest Time!

I live in the Suburbs of Vancouver in the lovely Fraser Valley and I’m happy to say we scored a decent backyard with the property we bought. I’m still dreaming of an acreage, but for now I will soak up all I can from our little home in the burbs.

I’m a country girl deep down and I grew up with helping my grandparents harvest out of their big garden in the country and their suburban home that they downsized too. I grew up gardening with my mom and my grandpa ended up having a garden on our property too.  It’s just in my veins I guess you can say.

To me, our backyard is small. This year we made planter boxes.  Wow, I wish we made these sooner. We are actually planning to make more in another area. Dreaming big over here.

I’ve shared in my 10 Reasons why I love Gardenening that you can garden anywhere.

Here’s a look at our garden looked like in June.IMG_0294

Here’s a recent photo in the end of July. We have 4 boxes this year. The wooden Tee Pee’s are covered with snap peas and green beans.

IMG_0578

This year I didn’t have as big of harvest as I have had in previous years. Still, anything in our freezer or in canning jars is a win win.

Our kids love running to the garden to pick a fresh snap pea and for me, I’m just simply in my happy place.

IMG_0584

Our harvest this year was lots of Pole Beans, Snap Peas, Rhubarb, Strawberries, Maggie, White Onion, Lettuce, Arugula and Chives.

img_7758

I think my favorite so far was making the blueberry rhubarb sauce with local blueberries. We made a cheesecake and brought that sauce along to a friends luncheon. Lets just say the dessert was DEVOURED. It was so good. I’ll have to remake it again and take pictures next time!!

I love summer. Especially our camping trips and time with family. But gardening to provide fresh food for my family, you can’t put a price on that.

_Growing your own vegetables never looses it's value_

It’s worth all the hard work that does into it. Once you have a system, it doesn’t take much to keep the maintenance going with it.

Do you have a garden? Like mine in town?  If I could I would expand on the whole property…then we would really need an acreage.

What’s your favorite thing to grow?

5 Family Camping Must Haves

Family camping must haves

I’m excited to share this post with you. It’s summer and my hands are full with keeping the kids busy.

Camping is right around the corner for us so it’s a perfect time to share on my blog.

My husband and I have had our fair share of fun when it comes to camping. Being together 12 years we finally have learned what works for us and our now a family of 5.

Sharing from our experience are we in now way are perfect at camping.

I hope these camping must haves for our family are helpful for you and your family.

Camping with our family can be summed up into this quote:

“Camp where your kids can get outdoors, discover and explore”

_Camp where your kids can play, discover and explore._

If you like my camping posts, ask your camping questions in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them.  Or maybe there’s a camping topic you would like me to cover, post your blog post in the comments or message me.

Camping Must Haves

1: Travel Trailer

We did 10 years camping with a tent.

The final time we camped with our kids in a tent, our air mattress deflated the first night. Our oldest kept falling in between the tent wall and his air mattress and our toddler was almost 2 big for the pack and play.  As much as my hubby could stand in our tent we were DONE.

2nd summer with our travel trailer and I’m so thankful we took the plunge and bought it.

The full Travel Trailer Tour is here.

2: Storage Bins

IMG_9234Even if your tenting, BINS BINS BINS!! Yes we have a trailer now, the storage spaces are limited so I still rely on bins for toys and little kids clothes (etc).

We have an open shelf just above our kitchen table/bed where this sits. Traveling is have to stay down.

The toy bin helps keeping the toys OFF the floor.  Kids clean up toys at home, camping is no different.

3: French Press

(this made the top 3).

IMG_9265 (2)

Morning coffee by the lakeside, need I say more?

4: A Good Kettle

IMG_9263 Kettle

Even with a trailer and having access to hot water is great.  Still, having a good kettle helps for those many things, like coffee!!

5: Dutch Oven

IMG_9255

This is still new to us. My husband is wanting to get a charcoal BBQ for our trailer. Added bonus I can pre-make meals, pop them in the dutch oven and cook away. SO many great camping meals to be made, just like chocolate cake!

IMG_0538

Bonus: Having a Travel Trailer helps with bringing full size products along. All the travel size bottles honestly never get used up.

Mom’s Summer Survival Guide

Mom's summer

It’s the end of June! School is OUT and Summer Holidays are here.

I’ve already been doing these things in my days before the end of the school year that I figured, why not share it here with you.

If you have kids in school and maybe your excited as I am to have the kids home (or your not), hopefully what I have to share to help survive the summer will be helpful.

If I miss something and you want to add to this, please do so in the comments below.

I love having my kids home. Some days, I feel like I’m only surviving. I would rather be a mom that models to her kids that she’s thriving and not only in survival mode.

However, it’s summer vacation…I might just need these tips to look back on and review again.

Here’s my ‘Mom’s Summer Survival Guide’:

Prep your home BEFORE school is out:

IMG_0314I worked hard last week that my son was still in school to get all the at home activities and house cleaning ready to go for an easier start to summer vacation.

My kids know the usual household stuff I do on a regular basis. Usually they leave me alone when I do these things.

Having to NOT be doing all this on the first weekend or start to the week when the kids are home, helps me to not burn out.

Plan/Post your July/August Calendar:

I’ve been struggling with keeping up with my calendar and recently got a nice planner for at home. Attempting to keep up with a digital one is clearly not working.

This is the one I ended up buying. Simplified by Emily Ley

With summer here and learning how the months are taking shape, with company coming into town, when to schedule a summer Reno (like our deck at the moment). I needed to have the summer calendar posted up for the kids to see and have it all laid out. Plus my husband and I spent a whole evening dedicated JUST to looking it all over.

Plus, we all know that life loves to jump up and add to your schedule and make it even more busy. But that’s the adventure right?

Plan PLAY DATES NOW!!

Yes, I put lots of emphasis on this. I booked Play dates for the start of the week and it’s really paying off already. Knowing our summer schedule is keeping me on task with when it works and when we are available.

We can all chat as mom’s and say “Hey let’s plan a play date”…I can promise you if you don’t put down a date…it’s not going to happen. My kids don’t leave me alone and make sure I’ve contacted “so and so’s mom”. Save yourself the headache and get on it before summer comes and goes like it always does.

Summer Bucket List:

We did this last year and it made a massive impact for us. Jordan Page from the blog Fun Cheap of Free has a post about a summer bucket list.  I actually watched her video on YouTube about it and figured why not give it a try.

It was a life saver last summer!

We actually ended up finishing our list way past summer. It helps teach your kids about goal setting which is awesome. Go print one or make one!

Local FREE activities:

Save yourself lots of money and find local summer activities in your area. Well worth it. More money you have for the much needed camping trips.

At Home Activities:

IMG_0397I keep lots of activities at home for our kids. During the summer we get to do more as I have a crafting table outside.

Just a disclaimer: Activities like painting that need to be supervised…should be supervised.

This is that survival mode I was talking about. This is what happens after I was exhausted having a wonderful night out with friends in Vancouver and I fall asleep and had a nap. My 3 year thinks he can mix paints!

At Home Summer School:

IMG_0489What?  Like homeschooling? No, my kid doesn’t need summer school, that’s not what I am getting at.

My son LOVES crafting and science projects, so we do stuff like putting flowers in food dye and watch them changed colours.

Also, I have seen lots of friends getting their kids to do just one page a day during the week from the curriculum books you can get at Costco or at a local Walmart.

My sons teacher sent him home with a little printed journal thing like he’s used to doing and willingly he’s filling it out.

Sure helps for the upcoming school year if they have kept up with a simple, reading, writing and math over the summer. I’ve shared a FREE printable from Education.com website in my Spring Break Post and they having a CONTEST!! Click on the link to apply.

You Time:

IMG_0355Don’t forget the much needed down time for yourself. Plus planning summer date nights with your spouse. We have one coming up.

Make adult zones! I love this swing in our backyard. The kids can fit in it but, it’s more for us.

FYI, yes the day I took this picture with me having “mom time” was still jeans weather, I was keeping it modest ;).

I hope this is helpful as you coming into summer break with kids home.

You have 18 summers. My kids are still young, and 18 summers comes really fast. Enjoy the time you have when they are young.

That’s what our family is trying our best to do.

10 Reasons Why I Love Gardening

10 REASONS I LOVE GARDENING

I’ve got a whole list of blog posts that I want to work on about our home.  Mostly about spaces we are working on on the inside.

However, we are an outdoors family through and through.

Gardening for me at this time of year is my top thing to do outside.

I recently shared a snapshot of our backyard on Instagram and lots of people loved it.  The lovely side of living in the Fraser Valley is the awesome spring weather we get (aside from lots of rain).

Truth is all I want to do is get outside and get the yard clean up done so the real work can begin in the gardens.

I went from starting out with one pot by my front door in a rental, when I was single. Getting a potting table built at our rental when we were married.  To our little townhouse with the itty bitty front garden and backyard, with lots of pots added to my collection.

Quote - Gardening verses Working

Now to our property where I’m trying to live the suburban dream of having as much as a mini “homestead worthy” backyard as possible.

I know it’s possible, I have a book that’s got plans that could make this place work.

As much as I’ve been a stay at home mom for the past couple of years, it’s hard for me to focus working on my business and training when my garden is calling me to get outside.

One day I know my husband and I will have both enough space for the kids to spread out, He can have his lawn and I’ll be living as much as a homesteading dream as I can.

IMG_0300Here’s my 10 reasons why I love Gardening.

1: Saves money:  If you can get enough produce and flower bouquets out of your garden that you spend at the local grocery store then it’s paying off.  I can say we are getting close to that.

This topic could easily be a blog post all in it’s own from what we have experienced on saving money.

2: Stress Relief: If you haven’t spent time outside in a garden just simply weeding, then I hope reading this will help you be motivated to think about making a garden.  Even if it’s pots of a deck outside a condo.

3: Learning a whole new skill: As much as people say to others that they have a “green thumb”, I’ve noticed gardening is a skill to be practiced and perfected. Even the large growing greenhouse companies have whole growing trails fail.

4: Peace and Quiet: Those early morning or late night watering is something that’s become a favorite quiet time I look forward to every spring.

IMG_01455: Creating a memorial garden: In 2014, we lost someone very special to our family. Most people who have lost a loved one have a physical graveside they can go to and visit.

With having a miscarriage we don’t. Our little girl passed away at 17 weeks in my second pregnancy. In her memory I have created “Gloria’s Garden”. I love sitting in the Adirondack chairs by the ruffed up old tricycle (pictured above) in our backyard.

6: Local Produce:  Nothing gets more local than growing your own food and discovering how fresh and amazing your meals taste with each gardening season.

7: Teaching my kids: I love teaching them about where food comes from, it’s not just from the grocery store. I also love teaching my kids the joy and gift that gardening is. My oldest without being prompted or asked jumped right in to help create his little sister’s garden.IMG_0274

I learned the value of hard work from growing up in the country.  With our little suburban property, our kids are still learning these wonderful life values I was taught.

8: Life lessons: The parallels of life lessons and gardening keep surprising me every year. If your a regular gardener like I am. I’m not an expert by any means. However, I keep finding that what I learn from gardening can be applied to life.

For example: knowing bad things (like weeds) can be deceiving and pretty BUT, if not dealt with can over take your life (or your garden). The morning glory in my garden is almost more than I can handle, just like bad things that come up in my life. If I don’t deal with it, it’s everywhere. You can overcome it…eventually.

IMG_02959: Happiness: Gardening brings out lots of happiness for me. Watching my kids sneak “treats” from the strawberry plants. Running out during dinner prep and adding herbs or making muffins with the rhubarb is worth all the time that goes into gardening.

Recently we upgraded our garden area with raised beds!

We are even starting to build up enough of a harvest in a our little backyard to fill up our freezer to enjoy in the winter months. It just keeps giving.

10: Time with God: This one not everyone will agree with me on.  That’s fine, where I am at in my life this time is becoming more and more a necessity with my walk with God. That peace and quiet time I spoke about in number 4 is fast becoming a much needed prayer time.

Which tip is your favorite?  Love to hear why you love gardening?  If you don’t have a garden I hope some of this is inspiring to help get you started.

Taking Social Media Breaks

Taking Social Media Breaks 3It’s happening, I’m taking social media breaks. Boy is it worth it!

Here’s a look at the importance of social media breaks in our lives.

I noticed I was tired all the time. Plus I recently learned I have to have reading glasses now. As the eye doctor said, ‘just a normal sign of aging”. Ugh.  Thanks for the reminder.

If there is a message that I could get out there, this is definitely one of them.  The importance of self care and taking breaks. We all needs breaks. Isn’t that what vacation is about?

Below is a picture from our Alberta vacation in summer of 2018

Summer 2018

This is a new topic I like to add to Notefull Living and that is Self Care.

I remember people getting annoyed over 10 years ago of noticing couples on their honeymoon on social media.  That just seems to be the norm now.

Recently I discovered I was super drained from everything. I shared on my music Instagram that life recently has been feeling like I’ve been faced with a difficult piece of sheet music to play.

When I’m drained and worn out, I’m not the person I want to be.

I took an evaluation of all that has been draining a lot of my energy.

Was it my kids? No, parenting has many things that come up and now having 3 I’m not surprised by what comes my way with the kids anymore.

Was it family? We all face life struggles and even though they look different we can still be there for each other.

Then I thought about how much I’m annoyed by my phone.  It’s not so smart considering it’s called a smart phone.  Seriously, it really isn’t.

I had already been deleting apps like YouTube.  That made a HUGE difference for me not wasting time. But something still wasn’t right.

That’s when I had enough and stopped going on social media.

I was in a blogging course and realized the lady I was taking the course with just took a 6 month break from Social Media. But, I noticed just like her business she runs online, as I took a break, my blog grew subscribers and so did my Instagram. It’s always running.

I can now understand and relate to Melissa Maker from Clean my Space when she says she hates cleaning. She has a YouTube channel, book, a cleaning cloth products she sells and owns a cleaning company, and hates cleaning.

I honestly hate being online, but I see the business potential that’s here and helping others online with stuff I’ve learned. It makes sense when she says she hates cleaning, in some weird backwards way.

I did a quick search on this topic and many many people recommend it. I didn’t even search if it was something I ‘should’ do, I just did it. I had a good gut feeling about it and it was worth it.

Have you taken a Social Media Break?Social Media Breaks

Did I get a lot done during that time? Yes, but not on the computer or my phone. I worked hard on the yard and in my house.  Made a flower garden. We got plans ready for another Reno we are doing. Made garden boxes and now have them mostly planted. Did lots of reading.

We just enjoyed life and family time.

Anyways, If you have been researching this topic and considering for yourself to take a social media break, do it. I just did a 3 weeks break on a whim and will definitely do it again.

I see taking a Social Media Break is much needed self care.

Self care is huge for YOU and everyone who comes into your life or is in your life will notice it.

Self care isn’t something I did very much in the past and oddly enough I sell Arbonne Products that’s a big part of self care. Selling the Product now gives me a whole different perspective with letting others know about it. You can find my link below.

As I shared before, if there is one message I could get out there is this one. Aside from my Faith Message, but I’m not here to be a bull horn Christian, just a witness.

I have a small handful of friends who don’t have social media at all. People look at them weird. They don’t care, they love every minute of not having the drama and emotional drain that comes with Social Media.

As of right now, I’m still going to stay on Social Media, but limit my time on it.  Or take the much needed breaks when I feel emotionally drained and overwhelmed.

You need to learn who your close ‘tribe’ is to help you out when you need it. I now use my e-mail list to reach out to close friends or just text them.  I’ve been making a big shift not to ‘lean’ on social media so much.

I want to make sure I can teach my kids how to be a good person and that will reflect that online in the future when they are connected to the internet.

Hope this blog post was helpful.

Love to hear your comments on this topic.

Definitely a conversation I think we should be having with ourselves and friends and family.

Carrie

A new look at Spring Cleaning

A new look at Spring Cleaning

It’s Here, Spring finally came for 2019.

I’m aware you can google this topic of Spring Cleaning and you can find SO many videos on YouTube about spring cleaning.

I’ll be honest, I’ve binged watched and subscribed to a few channels on the topic. My favorite is Melissa Maker from Clean My Space. Not a plug for her, just really like her content and she’s Canadian!!

Hopefully what I have to add that works for me is helpful for you too.

I have found the Spring Cleaning has become less complicated. Doesn’t anyone else what that? I know I did.

My Method for Spring Cleaning has finally come down to a task that happens all year round.

I have 3 kids, if we don’t attack it all year it’s becomes overwhelming and too much, insert meltdowns, I get frustrated and it’s not fun for everyone. We have finally gotten to a place that our oldest understands and this process has gotten easier.  He’s starting to mature and see what it’s all about, which is wonderful.

Yes, our kids are included. Especially the playroom and their toys.

The Spring Cleaning I want to talk about today isn’t one you would expect. As I mentioned, if you want, you can watch YouTube videos’ of people cleaning. Up to you.

I’ve been doing this and it’s made a world of difference.Focusing on _All Seasons_ Cleaning, Purging and Organizing has made all the difference or it's a mountain of a task in the Spring

We always talk about cleaning our houses or car or closets. What about cleaning the unexpected places that you might not know is dragging you down. I hope you’ve had the wonderful experience of cleaning out an area in your home and feeling a lot “lighter” afterwards and it makes you motivated to clean, purge and organize another area.

Since I do my cleaning, purging and organizing all year, I can focus on specific areas.

Here’s additional items to think about for Spring Cleaning:

Apps on my Smartphone.

I started deleting the apps I NEVER use. Or the ones I’m OVER use and waste LOTS of my time.

Which app could you delete that wastes lots of your time?

My app was YouTube. Yup, I got rid of it off my phone. I don’t like my kids seeing me gripping my phone all day long. YouTube is my zoning out place. Lots of DIY’s, Farmhouse and homesteading channels I can’t stop binge watching.

I noticed I was telling my kids “Mom’s just needing to sit down and take a break”…45 min later, I’m still telling myself I can watch another 12 min video.

When I first deleted the app, I didn’t miss it the first 2 days. Then I found myself trying to go to the usual spot that I had the app in. NOPE, I made a choice to get rid of it.

If your phone is less distracting with deleting apps, getting into the routine of “All Season” cleaning gets easier.

I actually would prefer to be without the phone all together, truthfully. It’s not something I grew up with, but my kids are. I don’t find myself to be any further ahead with one and looking forward to seeing my options once my contracts up. Plus it’s taking me away from the ones who need me most, my family.

Since I’m on the topic of technology. My other spring clean I need to do is my blog, and computer. For my computer I specifically mean our family pictures.

Our dream for our family home was always to have our pictures from our family life as our “Wall Art”.

Cleaning up of pictures and organizing them on the computer will help us accomplish this goal.

Plus my blog needs a spring clean. Now that I have a better flow with how blogging goes, (it’ll probably change again once I get the hang out it fully), I can go back and spring clean my old posts.

What’s another benefit of being in spring cleaning mode all year?

Right now we are attacking a large area in our house, that most people won’t let you ever see. I can’t wait to show you the before and after pictures of this space. I’ve tried making a space work in our home since we moved here as my work space. We finally said enough is enough and are officially making it a storage space.

My husband has more time at home now and wants more space in the garage to do Reno’s and wood projects. Fixing up this old work spot of mine into a storage will make a huge difference.

Since we got our trailer, lots of our camping stuff came out of the garage. Still wasn’t enough space.

My canning jar collection is going to have a new home and we are going to install an official boot room. Can’t wait to show you the reveal.

Again, If I didn’t approach my cleaning all year round , this wouldn’t be possible. Or we would still attack it with lots of frustration from the kids. Plus over spring break I got a new flower garden in and got garden boxes.

Less time wasted on my phone, means more time pursuing LIFE. We can always get sucked into the endless content on our phones OR put it down and get stuff done so you can play more later!!

Do you spring clean ONLY in spring?

What apps would you delete that you don’t use or overuse?

Love to hear what fun projects you are doing in your home to make life that much easier to do the things you love, which space is it?

Getting Home Decor and Garden Ready for Spring

Spring Home and GardenCan’t believe the official day of Spring is almost here. I’m so ready for it. My tulips are up and some of my crocuses are starting to bloom.

Here’s some things I’ve done to get my Home and Garden ready for Spring.

Spring Decor in our Home:

I have finally narrowed my Decor into ONE box. Yes, I’ve surprised myself too that I could contain myself to keep stuff in one box.

Here’s how: I keep all my Fall and Spring Decor in the SAME bin. I’m more of a simple decorator.

I’m all about keeping the decor on the cheap side and making it myself.

Plus I have an average size house, which is perfect. Less to clean. BUT we are working on improving some spaces in our home which means I’ll have more places to decorate.

I got my homemade grapevine wreath out and add some Spring bunches I put together just a few flowers on the wreath.

You can find my Homemade Grapevine Wreath here.

IMG_0125 (2)I love having this wreath on the door. I usually keep it up for Spring Summer and Fall.

I’ve also added a decorative box on my counter. The box and cookbook is hiding some tech stuff. Gotta make is pretty somehow, right?

I have some other flower bunches on the fireplace and my painted mason jars on our new table.

In the summer I add my own fresh flowers for the garden to put in the vases.

I actually had this all set up over a week ago. We had a little film done in our home and since it was done early March I was like, perfect time to get my spring decor out!!

Aside from my blog and decor being a great creative outlet for me I garden.

Getting my Garden Ready for Spring.

IMG_0121Our goal is to make Garden Boxes this year. I used to have a large one in the backyard when we bought the place. It was in the way and we took it down with plans to rebuild different ones. I’ll be sure to share before and after pictures when the new boxes are done.

I loved taking in the harvest from the previous owner when we bought. The greenhouse was PACKED with tomatoes. We learned to love making our own tomato sauce and don’t buy store bought sauce ever again.

I haven’t been able to keep the greenhouse happy since. It’s an art form I’ve learned. Need to do something with the soil apparently.

I’m adding a new Garden this year. Alongside having the boxes being built. I hope to get that Garden turned over soon.  More about that to come.

We are also ripping down our deck and rebuilding it. So our backyard is getting some much love this year. This will also make a great before and after posts. Here’s a teaser, you won’t believe what was growing on the deck when we moved in. I made sure to capture it!

For right now, I’m pulling out my seeds and seeing what’s there. Cleaning up the mess from winter. Looking forward to getting busy outside again. I’ve said it before, I love putting on my gumboots.

Spring Break Ideas for Kids

Spring Break Ideas for Kids

Since I last shared about being a parent and spring break coming up so quick I had to write this post.

Get your FREE printable linked in this post below!

Since I’m sharing about life with kids today. I’m not sharing cute staged photos just real life. Because we all need to see that sometimes.

Last year my son was part time kindergarten so I still had him home enough that Spring Break and Christmas break felt normal. Now he’s in full time school and Christmas Break is full of family get together’s BUT Spring Break is not.

Some of these Spring Break Ideas for Kids is already set to go in our home all year round.  This really came in handy when my son had almost a full week off for snow days recently.

My time in working in both Public and Private schools as a Teachers Assistant has sparked a lot of these ideas within my home. Here’s my ‘Ready Set Go’ list and ‘Spring Break Wish list’ ideas to help make it Spring Break (or any unexpected school day off) fun and interesting.

Ready Set Go Activities:

These are always available, year round and kids can access at anytime. You may notice a IMG_0080simple look at this list, helps kids be more creative.

As I shared, this is a real life look at what our kids cupboard looks like.

  1. Coloring Books – Fit in the DIY book holder.
  2. Pencil Crayons, Crayons and Felts in easy (Dollar Store or DIY) to clean up containers.
  3. Scrap Paper – Printer paper gets expensive FAST. Can always use the backside of paper.
  4. White Erase Books – I have a mini collection from Usborne Books. Any book section in stores have them. Lots of options out there. We scored a great one at Costco last summer.
  5. Puzzles
  6. Play Dough – Make your own
  7. Spiro Graph
  8. Paints (Assisted and Supervised)
  9. Smart Games – Rush Hour for example
  10. Books – Library or used book store
  11. Play Room full with Toys and Games

Spring Break Wish list:

We made a summer wish list last year and it made summer a lot more fun and easier (manageable for mom). Why not do that for Spring Break too.

Got this idea from Fun Cheap or Free.

Ask your kids what they want to do? Here’s the response I got plus some extra ideas with a FREE printable.

  1. Play Dates – Always, seriously though start planning it now.
  2. Swimming – This was one of my sons top request.
  3. Flying a Kite was his next one. Honestly if the weather is right all outside activities are a GO!
  4. Make larger craft projects. Depends on your kid. Mine soak this up and love making bigger projects. Like a Dinosaur Habitat for exampleIMG_0081
  5. Movie Theater Date Night – All depends on what’s showing.
  6. Find out in your local area what’s happening for FREE.
  7. Print off worksheets, have fun practicing your reading skills with this cute Spring word matching activity! Check out Education.com for more reading activities! My son loves this page!

Here’s the FREE matching list with images_spring!

What would be on your wish list? Comment below with your ideas.

_My ultimate Spring Break wishlist is a vacation, with a beach_

I hope these things are helpful to you? Are you looking forward to spring break?  I know my 3 year old will love having his big brother home. I won’t mind my oldest distracting the other two so I can get stuff done.IMG_0078

What’s on my actual wish list – DIY projects and getting my garden planning started.

Picture above is my last real life moment. Happy I had my camera ready. “Mom look at my heart”.

Happy Spring!
